A DEMENTIA campaigner will be in the county as part of a national tour to raise awareness of the devastating disease.
The campaigner had a successful career in the music business touring the world with the likes of the Spice Girls, Kylie Minogue, U2 and Elton John until his mum Joan developed vascular dementia.
Tommy swapped the glitz and the glamour of the music world to move back with his mum where he became her full-time carer for nearly six year until she died in 2012.
The Tommy on Tour talk will take place at the Innovation and Wellbeing from 9.30am to 1.30pm on Monday.
There will also be the chance to talk to NHS staff who provide dementia services and the Alzheimer’s Society and an opportunity to raise specific queries during a question and answer session.
Sue Greenwood, who is in charge of dementia services for Peninsula Community Health, said: “We’re delighted the national campaigner, Tommy Whitelaw, will be visiting the county to talk about dementia and caring for those with the illness.
“This is a great opportunity for you to engage with carers and service providers about the care that is delivered to people with dementia in Cornwall.”
