Breast cancer starts when cells in the breast begin to grow out of control. These cells form a tumour which can often be seen on an X-ray or felt as a lump. If the cells grow into or invade surrounding tissues, or spread to distant areas of the body, the tumour is malignant. Breast cancer occurs mostly in women, but men can get breast cancer too.
