The initiative was the idea of staff from Grevill House, a 50-bed care home run by the Orders of St John Care Trust.
They transformed an under-used area of the home into a 1940s-themed public house to help boost the social lives of residents.
Residents can us the space to play games like dominoes, read old-fashioned newspapers, enjoy a pint of stout or just sit and chat with friends.
The pub is a pop-up “pod”, meaning the whole room can be taken down quickly and new themed areas introduced in its place at little additional cost.
Joe Caine, home manager at Grevill House, said: “Just popping out to the pub for a quick drink isn’t really a practical option for many of our residents, so we decided to bring the pub to them.”
He said the room was “perfect for socialising” and also brought “back fond past memories” for the residents.
“Feedback from both staff and residents has been fantastic and seems to have really boosted the atmosphere within the home,” he added.
