Wound Management Policy

The Care Home aims to provide a standardised approach to wound management, addressing symptom control and maintaining the resident’s quality of life. This policy offers guidance on wound management for acute and chronic wounds by means of initial assessment and plan of care.

A wound is a break in the epidermis or dermis that can be caused by or related to trauma or to pathological changes within the skin or body. A holistic perspective to wound management is that wound healing is only one aspect of the body’s response to injury and the whole person, not just the injury, must be treated.
