Care Quality Commission recruits 200 more inspectors to deliver over 39,000 scheduled inspections

For the second year running the Care Quality Commission (CQC) is recruiting approximately 200 health and social care professionals to help it deliver its programme of inspections; 80 have already been identified from the pool of people recruited last year.

A bank of inspectors will be contracted to support the delivery of its 2013-14 inspection programme, in which it has committed to delivering over 39,000 scheduled inspections – more than ever before.

The bank inspectors will be working under the direction of permanent CQC staff and will receive training in inspecting, making judgments and report writing, as well as how to deal with whistleblowers and safeguarding issues.

Candidates will need to have skills and experience in the health and social care field to ensure that essential standards of quality and safety are met by providers and that the quality of care and support to service users is improved.

Malcolm Bower-Brown, regional director, Care Quality Commission, said: “Last year CQC used bank inspectors to help support our regional inspection teams providing the additional flexibility we needed to carry out our annual inspection programme. We have retained many of these staff who will be supporting us again this year.

“With an expanded programme of over 39,000 scheduled inspections between now and March 14, we are now recruiting a further cohort of bank inspectors to support our work.

“We are looking for experienced health and social care professionals to carry out these inspections this year, focused largely within the adult social care sector.

“Our experience of using bank inspectors for the first time last year was a positive one and we look forward to hearing from anyone who is interested in working with us over the next few months.”
