Cholecystitis Nursing Care Plan

Cholecystitis is inflammation of the gallbladder, a small organ on the right side of the abdomen beneath the liver. In most cases, gallstones blocking the tube leading out of the gallbladder cause cholecystitis. This results in bile build up which can cause inflammation. Other causes of cholecystitis include bile duct problems and tumours. Gallstones occur when bile, which is normally fluid, forms stones. Often just a few small stones are formed, but sometimes there are many.
