Pneumonia Nursing Care Plan

Pneumonia is inflammation of the tissue in one or both lungs. It is usually a result of an infection, which causes the clusters of tiny air sacs in the lungs to become inflamed and fill up with fluid. The inflammation makes breathing more difficult and also causes a decrease in the absorption of oxygen.

Other symptoms include a cough, which may be dry at first or productive with yellow, green, brownish or blood stained phlegm. Other common symptoms include difficulty in breathing, which may be rapid and shallow, even at rest, a rapid heartbeat, fever, feeling generally unwell, sweating and shivering, loss of appetite, chest pain and an acute confused state.

The Care Plan sets out a clear explanation of the resident’s issue, and will quickly guide the nurse or carer through the process of preparing a comprehensive, individual person centred Care Plan.
